This plant was in cultivation as early as 1902 in the Singapore Botanic Gardens but was lost to cultivation. New specimens were discovered in 1982. The name comes from its erect scape up to 40 cm long with approximately 17 flowers. The flowers are lightly fruit scented and 3 - 4 cm across. This again has the thick leaves typical of this group.
